Rolando Izquierdo, MD

Dr. Izquierdo brings to McHenry County a unique set of skills, built upon solid and very diverse training opportunities. He joined Crystal Lake Orthopaedics in 2003, after completing a fellowship in shoulder and elbow reconstruction and sports medicine at Columbia University in New York City. During his fellowship he worked with world-renowned experts and mastered open and arthroscopic surgical techniques to treat complex shoulder and elbow problems.

The son of Cuban immigrants, Dr. Izquierdo is fluent in both English and Spanish. He was born and raised in the Chicagoland area, and attended Fenwick High School in Oak Park. After graduating from the University of Illinois, he received his medical degree from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the University of Cincinnati Hospitals, and developed a special interest in sports medicine while providing coverage for the University of Cincinnati athletic programs and the Cincinnati Bengals. He is board certified in orthopaedics, as well as in sports medicine.

Dr. Izquierdo is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the Columbia Shoulder and Elbow Society. He has served as invited faculty at the American Academy of Orthopaedics to instruct surgeons from around the world in the latest techniques in arthroscopic and reconstructive shoulder surgery.

Dr. Izquierdo routinely performs a high volume of total shoulder replacements, reverse total shoulder replacements, arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs, as well as arthroscopic shoulder instability and labral repairs. He also performs sports related elbow and knee surgeries, including ACL reconstructions.

Dr. Izquierdo resides in Crystal Lake with his wife and three children. He is an avid sports fan and volunteers his time at many local high school athletic events.
